The All-Inclusive Guide to Installing the Homebrew Channel on a Wii

If you've ever wanted to install Homebrew on your Wii console, this is the right guide for you. This guide utilizes the "Bannerbomb" method, the easiest method for installing homebrew at this time.

Installing the Homebrew Channel with Bannerbomb

The first thing you'll want to do is install the Homebrew Channel, an easy to use homebrew browser from which your homebrew will be launched. To do so, follow the easy steps below.

Physical Materials:

1. SD card (not an SDHC card)

Software Needed:

1. The Hackmii Installer, located here:

-Note: Click on "Hackmii Installer v0.3" on the above page

2. The actual Bannerbomb exploit, located here:

-Note: Download the file named "aad1f_v108.zip."

Setting up your SD Card

1. Extract the folder named "aad1f_v108.zip" to the root of your desktop. Take the folder inside, named "private," and copy it to the root of your SD card.

2. Extract the folder named "hackmii_installer_beta3" to your desktop. Take the file inside named "boot.elf" and copy it to the root of your SD card. At this point, you should have just two files on the root of your SD card: a folder named "private" and a lone file named "boot.elf."

3. Your SD Card is now ready to install homebrew on your Wii.

Installing the Homebrew Channel With Bannerbomb

*WARNING:* There is a very slight risk that something could go wrong with your Wii. I have personally installed the Homebrew Channel on six Wiis with no problems. Also, doing this voids your warranty, so proceed at your own risk.

1. Put the SD card in your Wii.

2. When the System Menu loads, click the button in the lower left-hand corner. If you have a Wii with 4.0+ installed, DO NOT click the SD card menu button. It won't work.

3. Choose "Data Management"

4. Click "Channels".

5. Move over to the SD card tab (using the tabs at the top of the screen).

6. A dialog box that says, "Load boot.dol/elf?" will pop up. Click yes to confirm.

7. At this point, the Hackmii Installer will begin to load. This may take a few seconds.

8. After a few seconds, press the "1" button to continue to the installer.

9. Another screen will pop up, informing you which programs can or cannot be installed. Click the "A" button to continue.

10. On the next screen, simply click to install the Homebrew Channel. I also highly advise installing DVDx so you can watch retail DVDs later on. That being said, DO NOT install BootMii, at least yet. This program is used to recover your Wii in the very rare case of a software failure, also known as a "brick." However, using this program requires some technical skill you may not possess. The best option for right now is to leave this program uninstalled, and install it later if you feel the need.

11. After both DVDx and the Homebrew Channel are installed, simply reboot your Wii. Congratulations! You now have the Homebrew Channel installed on your Wii!

Notes on Bannerbomb

-For some reason, "aad1f_v108.zip" refuses to work on some Wiis. If your Wii is one of the rare few that reject this file, use one of the other ones listed on this page: .

The Twilight Hack

Because this hack is outdated, there is no need to even think about using this method. For more information on this method, please read this page: .

Wrapping It Up

Now that you have the Homebrew Channel installed, you'll want to install a few apps to your SD card to use on your Wii. You can find a list of apps on this page: . Personally, I suggest downloading "MPlayer TT" for viewing DVDs. There are also numerous homebrew games that you may enjoy, such as "Supersonic Wii," and "GuitarFun," a Guitar Hero clone. Emulating other systems is also possible, but please be sure to follow legal code when utilizing these applications.

For more information on Wii homebrew, please visit . This is where I got information to fill the gaps in what I already knew. It's a great site for those interested in this subject. Also, I had already written a mini-guide on using this method, located here: . This guide was a bare-bones guide, and I only used a fraction of the information located there in this guide.

That concludes this guide to using Bannerbomb to install homebrew on your Wii. If you have any questions or comments, please message me or leave a comment. I'll try to be sure to get back to you.
