How to Effecively Use the ACOG Scope on the M40A3 Sniper in Call of Duty 4
A article that describes how and why you should use the ACOG scope on the M40A3 Sniper in the Game, Call of Duty 4.
Now that you have the basics let me tell you a little secret you may or may not know. When you equip the M40 with the ACOG scope the damage is automatically upped by 5. This means that you will get a 1 shot 1 kill even to the arms and legs. This set this gun apart from every gun (even the 50 cal doesn't kill in one shot to arms and legs).
So you know how to get the scope, and why to use the scope. I will now cover general strategy in TDM while using this gun. More articles will follow this one on in depth strategy on the specific maps in COD4. The general strategy when using this gun is DON'T rush. You need to sit back a little and let the opposing teams snipers get set in their buildings. You will not be hiding in buildings like the usual sniper. You are NOT a counter sniper. Your target is the flankers and the rushers. Many times you will be sniping from behind a car or fence. (Side note here; Throw a frag grenade at the car you want to hide behind. This will keep you from getting blew up and it also makes great cover in the crouch position shooting through the busted windows.)
Don't go into the battle wanting 29 kills or something. Your goal is to get 15 or so kills with 2 or 3 deaths. If you want 30 kills and 28 deaths you will be more suited using a SMG. You also need to avoid close up action. Even with steady aim, you sniper isn't even CLOSE to as accurate as a SMG or even an Assault rifle. I will write more articles soon discussing how to improve your hip shot with the g-shot and the gun swap shot.
Now your in battle, your team is rushing, what do u do? First off you pick a spot where you can see a medium to long strip of map that is commonly used. Next you find something to hide behind or go prone. So many people crouch instead of prone. If you learn to prone you will learn to live. Now all you have to do is wait. You should get your first 1 or 2 fairly quick. After you kill 2 MOVE. Pick 3 spots on the map and rotate. Avoid as many tight spots as you can and keep your back to the walls. If you hear too much action too close, don't be afraid to retreat away. Live to fight another day. If you play like you can only die one time you will see a improvement in your overall game and you will excel in S D; games faster.
That's pretty much the general idea behind the M40 with the ACOG. I will cover all the specific strategy for different maps and different game styles in future articles. Ill leave you with one highlight you can take with you and improve your game tonight. That strategy is PICK 3 SPOTS. If you want to snipe, pick you best 3 spots and rotate every 2 to 3 kills. Do this and you will have choppers and air strikes every game.
