Clay Pigeon Shooting Games
There are many shotgun trap games you can play with big groups here are a few to get you started. The article explains a few of the games that can be played while out shooting clay pigeons.
1. Annie Oakley. This is a last man standing game. Everyone starts off in a big straight line. If the thrower is in a bunker line up behind the bunker, if he is throwing by hand or with a pull thrower, put the thrower in the middle of the line. The First man in line is the first to shoot. The thrower throws one clay pigeon and the first man has one shot to hit it if he misses then the next in line has the chance to hit it and get the person who missed out. This continues down the line until everyone is out. If the first person hits the pigeon then it is the next person in lines turn and so on. If the person shooting misses and the next person misses and the third hits the target then both people who missed are out. If the first misses and the second hits it then the first is out and it is the persons turn who hit it to call for the pigeon. If no one hits the pigeon then all are safe and no one is out then it is the next persons turn. If the first shots and misses and then the second shoots and hits the target and the third shots after the target is hit then the first and third shooters are out. Remember even though someone might miss and the next person shoots and hits the target it will still be his turn to call for the pigeon the next turn. Even if everyone in line shoots and misses it is still the next persons turn in line. Everyone will have a chance to be the first shooter. Extra Idea: If all remaining shooters have been in for awhile because no one is missing then a variation can be played as follows; when a person hits a target and there is a piece of the broken target left the next person in line can shoot at it and if he hits it all players who shot before are out. If he misses it then he is out and along with any players who shot before the one that hit the target. For example if the first shoots and misses and then the second shoots and hits the target, but the third hits one of the pieces then the first and second (the one who hit the target) shooters are out. If the third misses the piece then the first and third shooters are out.
2. Team Pick a Piece. This game is a made up of teams of two. You and a partner have the chance to earn a total of three pints each round. Points are kept and at the end of the designated amount of rounds the team with the most points is the winner. Teams line up in a line and the first team on the left goes first. One team member is selected to say pull and be the first to shoot. If he hits the clay target that counts as one point and the other team member has to pick one of the pieces of that clay target and hit it. When he hits that piece it counts as two more points for a total of three points that round. If he misses then the team receives one point. If the first person misses the first shot and the second hits the target then it counts as one point. This goes on down the line of teams until it reaches the first team that started. They then switch which team member shoots first and then on down the line. Then when it gets back to them they rotate stations, they bump to the right and the last team on the right moves to the first position on the left. Then the first team starts again, this goes on until all teams have shot from every position. Remember each team gets two targets at each station. A chance for each team member to be both the first shooter and the one that has to pick a piece to hit. Remember to watch carefully because it can be difficult to tell if a piece has been hit. At the end of the game the team with the most points wins.
3. Team singles. Shooters pair off into teams of two. One shooter is the one to call for the pigeon and the other is back up. A clay pigeon is thrown for the shooter and if he misses then his teammate has the opportunity to back him up. One point is awarded to a hit and no points for a miss.
4. Team doubles. This is another game for teams of two. Two birds are loaded on the thrower and one of the team members (it doesn't matter who) calls for the pigeon. Each team member is allowed one shot and they have to hit both birds for a possible score of two points for the round. Set an amount of rounds and add up the scores at the end.
5. Singles. One clay pigeon is thrown for each shooter. They have one chance to hit it. Give everyone the same amount of pigeons and see who hit the most at the end.
6. Doubles. In this game one shooter attempts to hit to clay pigeons. Any amount of people can play. Two clay pigeons are loaded on the thrower and one shooter calls pull and tries to hit both pigeons. Each person is allowed two shots were as in most other games they are only allowed one.
7. Speed. This game can be played with any amount of people, but it is best with two or three. The object is to be the first person to hit the clay pigeon for one point. No one calls pull for the clay pigeon it is thrown and the throw's discretion.
